BORNEO GLOBAL PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE (BGPC) 2026

“Psychology in the Digital Era: Connecting Mind, Culture, and Global Change”

Background

Over the past two decades, the rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed nearly every aspect of human life, including how individuals think, interact, learn, and construct meaning.

This transformation has not only affected social and economic systems but has also significantly influenced mental health dynamics, behavioral patterns, and the structure of interpersonal relationships in global society.

On the one hand, digital technological progress offers substantial opportunities for the advancement of psychology, including expanded access to technology-based mental health services, innovations in psychological interventions, and increased global connectivity in knowledge exchange.

On the other hand, digitalization also presents complex challenges, such as the rising prevalence of anxiety, depression, digital fatigue, technology addiction, and disruptions to social values and individual identity.

These phenomena indicate that contemporary psychological approaches can no longer rely solely on individualistic or universalistic perspectives. Instead, there is a need to move toward more integrative, contextual, and transdisciplinary approaches. In the global context, there is an increasingly urgent need to develop psychological paradigms that are not only evidence-based but also sensitive to cultural diversity, local values, and ethical and spiritual dimensions.

The island of Kalimantan (Borneo), as a region rich in ecological and cultural diversity, offers a valuable perspective for the development of a more contextually grounded global psychology. Local wisdom that emphasizes balance between humans, the environment, and social life reflects a holistic approach aligned with modern psychological frameworks, particularly within the biopsychosocial and sustainability perspectives.

In this regard, integrating scientific knowledge with local wisdom is essential to produce psychological approaches that are more relevant and impactful.

Furthermore, in an increasingly interconnected global society, there is a need to create academic spaces that facilitate dialogue between local and global perspectives, while integrating values of humanity, empathy, and social responsibility into psychological practice. This approach is crucial in addressing various global challenges, including the mental health crisis, social inequality, and social changes driven by digitalization.

Therefore, the Borneo Global Psychology Conference (BGPC) 2026 is organized as an international scientific forum aimed at bringing together academics, researchers, and practitioners from various countries to discuss strategic issues related to psychology in the digital era. This conference is expected not only to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange but also to act as a catalyst for global collaboration, the strengthening of cross-cultural perspectives, and the development of more humane, contextual, and sustainable psychological practices.
